"First of all, if your mom
agrees, then maybe you might have a spot in Hollywood."
"In
what!?" Crystal´s mom asked looking shocked.
"Hollywood
mom. He said Hollywood." Crystal said excitedly. "But what kind of
spot?" she continued.
"I saw you in
some of school plays are you are really good…." Scooter answered.
"School
plays? How did you know I participate in school plays?"
Justin responded this
time, "I was talking to Rockline and she showed me some video of you in
your school plays and I decided to show them to Scooter...."
"Those were
really bad....they were my acting club plays."
"No..no..they
are very good. You are pretty amazing you know. Don´t cut yourself short."
Scooter answered encouragingly.
"I told you
that you are an amazing actress didn´t I?" Crystal´s mom commented
smiling.
"Yes you did
mom. Thank you" Crystal smiled back.
"It is not a guarantee
but we´ll try as hard as we can to get you started. Introduce you to great
movie directors and such." Scooter looked at Crystal´s mom. "So what
do you think ma´am?"
I could see
the tension in Crystal´s eyes as she waited for her mother´s response.
"Mom?...Can I
go?"
"You don´t
have to ask for my permission, of course you can go. Go out there and
experience the world, get a feel of how the real deal is sweetie."
She jumped and
hugged her mom. "Thank you. Thank you. I love you so very much mom. You
are the best."
"But as you
know, your grades cannot suffer. You have to also keep up the grades or else
you are coming back home."
"I promise I
will do my best."
"Then it´s
done."
Crystal sat back
down. "Somebody wake me up because all this feels like a dream."
"I know the
feeling. It was the same when Scooter found me on YouTube. One moment you are
at home singing and the next you are in a studio doing professional work."
Justin shared his experience. "Trust me, it´s going to be tough. Most
people will shut the doors of opportunity but you have to pick yourself up and
move t the next door until someone opens up and gives you a shot."
"You only get
to hear about this but now we are going to experience the tough side." I
said looking at Crystal.
"Girls,"
Crystal´s mom was speaking and we knew she was talking to us, "I have
something very important to tell you and try to keep this in mind, okay."
We nodded as she
proceeded, "In this entertainment industry, it´s going to be tough, with
ups and down, rumors and gossip, paparazzi following you and disturbing your
peace of mind. Try to keep a cool head because you´ll need it. But don´t let
the fame get to your heads, keep being humble and respectful just like the way
you are now. Growing as child stars in the industry is very challenging and you
need to remember your roots, why and how you are where you are. Be thankful and
never forget to pray. And last but not least, be yourselves and do what you do
to the best of your capabilities."
We nodded again.
There was a brief
silence which was cut short by Crystal´s mom. "So when are you guys
scheduled to leave?"
"On Tuesday
around three in the afternoon." Scooter answered.
"Tuesday?
Isn´t that too early?” My mom asked.
"We have to
start going early because Justin is going to start the second league of the
Believe tour on Saturday and we need to start rehearsals and get everything
set."
"Then the
girls had better start packing huh." My dad added before he turned to look
at my sister. "What about you, don’t you also want to go to
Hollywood?"
"No way, no
thank you. I would rather stay back in our little town. I´m too young to deal
will all the annoying paparazzi. I´ll wait until I´m older. I don´t want to be
stressed and grow old soon, I´m still too young."
Everyone burst out
laughing. I was actually surprised, I mean, she had always been talking about
being on TV and getting famous but I guess she got a change of heart after my
who le birthday drama.
After a few more
games, "Well look at the time. It flies so fast when you are having fun.
We have to be heading back to the hotel now. It´s almost midnight and I guess
we all worn out." Scooter added.
"This was
fantastic. I would love to have more dinners like these. Thanks for the food
ma´am. It was delicious."
"You are very
welcomed Justin."
"See you
guys."
"See
yah."
And they hopped
into their cars and headed for French Palace Hotel.
The next day was
Monday and I had to go back to school to say goodbye to some of my friends and
return all my books and everything that I had that belonged to the school but
the rest of the things, my parents were going to deal with later, for example the
school fees and stuff like that. Everything had happened so fast and abrupt, I
had texted some of them on Facebook and Twitter to tell them that I was going
somewhere else, some of them assumed that I was going away because of the
paparazzi scenario but I didn´t tell them anything, I wanted them to stay
guessing. I could tell from the moment Crystal and I entered the school doors
that everything had changed. People stopped at the corridor and stared, some
whispered to each other, some came over to hug us and ask for our autographs
and I knew there were some Beliebers in the school who gave me some presents to
give to Justin while the loud boys, especially the football players were all
cheering me, shouting what a great party I had. I don´t know about Crystal but
I felt like a queen, and I loved it but I tried to look modest.
We did what we had
to do and left with the tons of stuff we were supposed to give Justin. We had
to go and start packing because Tuesday was almost close and we had a lot of
clothes to sort through and carry. But before I left, there was one more person
I wanted to talk to.
"Why did you
do it?"
"Because I
was the one who was supposed to be popular, I was the one who was supposed to
have Justin on my birthday, not you, I was supposed to be the popular one and I
knew you wouldn´t be any more if...." she paused.
"If what?"
"I had to maintain my throne." That is all she said
as she pierced through my eyes with her stare.
"Your throne?"
"You have no
right to judge me!"
"I´m not
judging you Dina, but seriously I´ve known you like all my life and I know you
very well. You can be mean as hell but you would never do what you did for no
good reason. I know you well enough to know that the excuse you gave me was
pretty lame. You wouldn´t do such a thing, not in your right mind and when
Justin was there. Not when your parents would have maybe found out sooner or
later."
I looked at her in
the eye, something I had never dared to do. She looked away embarrassed. To my
surprise, she started to tear up.
"The other
guy that was brought in with me is the paparazzi dude who gave it to me to
sneak into the party. I was so determined to ruin your party I was not thinking
about the consequences, I just wanted you out of the way. I never thought
Justin would be dragged on to this mess. After that he met me and Chris when we
were leaving and he forced us to hide the rest of the marijuana that he had at
my place or else he was going to the tell the cops on us. He said that the
police were on him, they had been watching him for a while and he would report
us as his accomplices if we didn´t comply. But it wasn´t my fault of Chris´ either so we
just had to roll with it, my parents were out of town anyway. We were at my
place and the bag of marijuana was on the table. The paparazzi guys was
packaging them for some dealer, customer, I don´t know. All I know is that the
police stormed in on us as we were trying to hide it....the reason why I did it
was because.... "
"I´m sorry
but your visiting time is almost up, you have to leave soon...." The
warder shouted.
"Because....?"
"I....I just
wanted Justin to recognize me, to notice that I existed. Okay..."
"Dina, he was
going to come to your party and you could have spent the whole time with
him...You couldn´t allow me just one night of happiness... What and how do you
think Justin feels about you right now?!...." I was rather pissed off.
I was about to
walk out of the door when Dina called me, "Rocky!"
I looked back...
"I´m very
sorry for how I treated you....I don´t know why I did all those things, but I
guess I was jealous that you were smarter and better than me. And tell Justin
I´m so sorry, I didn´t think things would go this far....." I could see
tears forming in her eyes and she tries to wipe them away.
I couldn´t
continue being mad so I smiled at her.
"You are
forgiven and I will definitely tell Justin you are sorry..."
She smiled back
"Thank you."
And with that, I
the warder escorted me out. On my way out, I was just thinking about what she
said....she was jealous of me? Why? Her of all people? Anyway, I had to get
ready. When you are busy and excited, time flies so fast and Justin dropped by
to see how things were going and left later on. I don´t remember going to sleep
because my nerves were killing me. My eyes couldn´t shut no matter how hard I
tried. I was imagining what it would be like away from home, but this time
doing something more sensible and not having to hide. The next thing I remember
is my alarm clock ringing. It was eight in the morning. As I was about to hit
the shower, Crystal called to check up on me. We were hysterically screaming on
the phone and chanting "Today is finally the day" Today is finally
the day!"
By around ten, I
was all ready, my bags we down stairs, my room was made, all the clothes that I
didn´t need were well arranged in the closet and my Justin Bieber pictures
still hanging on the wall. I did not need to take them with me.
I ate lunch with
my family for the last time. My mom was so emotional, I was surprised that my
dad was too. But I guess that person I was going to miss the most was my little
sister. I squeezed her so tight.
"You are
suffocating me with your love."
"Oh
sorry."
"I love it,
and I love you. I´m really going to miss you."
"I´m going to
miss you too."
I hugged her one
last time then I ran upstairs and stared at my room, the one I had lived in for
eleven years, since I was five. peep
peep peep...
"Rocky, they
are here!"
I blew my room a
goodbye kiss and ran downstairs and out of the door to the car. Kenny helped my
dad with my suitcases as Crystal, Justin and Scooter came out to hug me.
"Are you ready?"
I looked at Justin
and smiled.
"I was born
ready."
And with that, I
waved goodbye to my parents and for that brief moment, I was overwhelmed with
sadness and about to cry. I didn´t know when I was going to see them next, but
they had promised it would be soon......but how soon? It hadn´t been two
minutes away from home and I was already home sick.
Justin looked at
me, "Sweetie, you will be fine." he wiped the tear that was falling
on my cheek, "I promise." he smiled.
